What is DERV / white diesel?
DERV stands for ‘Diesel Engine Road Vehicle’, but is often used to describe the fuel many of us know as diesel fuel. But it does have other names such as diesel fuel, white diesel, road diesel and ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD).
The name ‘Diesel’ comes from the inventor of the diesel engine, Rudolf Diesel, a German inventor who is credited with the invention of the very first diesel engine. In fact, the fuel we now know as diesel could have been something altogether different since Diesel’s early engine was designed to run on coal dust, vegetable oil and peanut oil.
